Call for papers.

Hosted by CIRDES (Centre International de Recherche-Développement sur l'Elevage en Zone Subhumide) in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, this sub-regional symposium on biotechnology in West Africa will investigate the state-of-the-art and discuss key research issues in biotechnology applications in animal health and production.

CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES

1.To bring together scholars, researchers and managers of tertiary and research institutions to share experiences
and projections on the role of these institutions in enhancing a Science and Technology Led Society
Transformation

2.To initiate new and strengthen existing collaborative research activities between the universities and other
stakeholders for enhancing a science and technology led development.

3.To develop a plan of action for universities, research institutions, and the private sector to contribute towards the
achievement of the Millennium Development Goals

The Conference Papers will be received in the following Sub-themes:

(i) Human Resource Development for Society transformation
((ii) Harnessing basic and applied sciences for industrialization and development.
(iii) Emerging health challenges in the 21st century.
(iv) Engineering technologies to enhance industrialization and sustainable development.
(v) The role of Information and communication technology in development.
(vi) Policy, cultural and socioeconomic aspects of development
(vii) Shelter provision, urban planning and infrastructure development.
(viii) Harnessing agricultural potential for sustainable development.
(ix) Quality Issues in Science and Technological Education
(x) Harnessing water and fisheries resources for sustainable development

Important dates:
Submission of abstracts: November 20th 2007
Submission of full papers: November 30th 2007
Posters and Exhibitions requests: 2nd December 2007

Registration Fees:
Undergraduate Students $ 20.00 per participant
Participants from Member Universities $ 50.00 per participant
East Africans $ 100 .00 per participant
Non East Africans $ 150.00 per participant
Accommodation in Kampala:
Accommodation in Kampala ranges from $ 20.00 to $50.00 per night.
There is limited accommodation at the University Guest House at $ 15.00 per night
